Original NO SMOKE Filter System

Fire Apparatus Diesel Exhaust Filtration.

The original NO SMOKE system is designed for trucks with 2006 model engines and older, helping protect crews from diesel exhaust exposure during station starts, return-to-station operation, and on-scene idle conditions.

Direct-Source Filtration for 2006 Model Engines and Older.

NO SMOKE is an apparatus-mounted, direct-source diesel exhaust particulate capture system that works automatically to help protect crews from the dangers of breathing diesel exhaust.

The system captures harmful particulate and gases that firefighters, EMS crews, and station personnel should not be exposed to during daily apparatus operation.

System Components

Filter. Diverter Unit. Electronic Control Module.

The original NO SMOKE system uses three key components to automatically direct exhaust into the filtration system when protection is needed.

01

Filter

Captures diesel exhaust particulate and gases before they spread through the station or around the apparatus.

02

Diverter Unit

Directs vehicle exhaust into the filter during automatic operation instead of allowing exhaust to enter the station environment.

03

Control Module

Engages the system during key operating moments, including engine startup and return-to-station operation.

How NO SMOKE Works

Automatic Filtration During Station Starts and Returns.

When the engine starts, the electronic control module engages the diverter unit and directs vehicle exhaust into the filter instead of allowing it to discharge into the station.

The system filters exhaust for a preset period, giving the apparatus time to leave the station before automatically switching back to straight exhaust. When the apparatus returns and is placed in reverse, the system automatically engages again while backing into the station.

  • Automatic filtration during engine startup
  • Preset timer for station departure
  • Automatic engagement when backing into the station
  • Designed for fire station exhaust exposure reduction
On Scene Protection

Manual Override Keeps Filtration Active While Idling.

A manual override allows the system to remain in filter mode while the engine idles on scene, helping protect firefighters, EMS crews, patients, and the public from diesel exhaust exposure near the apparatus.

The dash-mounted manual override button can also support departments with drive-through stations by allowing easy system activation upon entry.
